Becoming St. Joseph: The City of Coaches

For four seasons strong, hundreds of area leaders have joined us each month for our annual 9-part leadership breakfast series. Now, in Season V, we’re changing the format and raising the bar.

Our aim is to help St. Joseph establish a shared identity that honors our past, guides our present, and inspires a hopeful future. Without a shared identity, communities drift, divisions grow, momentum fades, and the common good gets lost. It’s time to unite as ONE TEAM on ONE MISSION.

If you believe in St. Joseph, join us in reclaiming a purpose-based identity that fuels a life-giving culture for all.

The City of Coaches?

In the beginning, St. Joseph was a “City of Coaches.” It was a hub where stagecoaches brought pioneers to gear up before heading out west to chase their dreams.

Coach: a covered carriage that takes a person of importance from where they are to where they want to or need to go.

Through this initiative, we’re reclaiming our identity and using the original meaning of “coach” as a metaphor for transformational leadership to move our community toward a brighter future.

Why it Matters

When St. Joseph becomes The City of Coaches, we establish a clarity of purpose, alignment of effort, and begin to speak a common language around a shared leadership framework that helps every sector of our community thrive.

Whether you lead in the arts, athletics, business, education, healthcare, government or nonprofit, this training equips you to lead with clarity and impact. When we coach well, we move people forward—and when we do it together, we move the whole city forward.

Watch this and rediscover the legacy of our city—and the fresh vision to become a City of Coaches once again.

3 Steps to Help Lead the Way

  1. Get Buy-in from Your “Head Coach”: Invite your organization’s leader to check out this page and learn more about how leaders from across all sectors are uniting to build The City of Coaches.
  2. Send a Representative to 3D Training Camp: Once a Head Coach is on board, they can bring or send a potential internal champion to attend a 3D Training Camp. There they’ll explore the 3D content, unpack the city-wide vision, and get their questions answered.
  3. Build Your Team for Season V: When your oranization is ready to commit to becoming a pilot for your sector in the City of Coaches, enroll your team(s) in the Fall and/or Spring cohort(s).

We’re not asking for commitment—yet. Right now, we’re simply gathering the interested.

If you lead a team and have the authority to chart its direction, here is your chance to explore what it means to join a growing movement of leadership across St. Joseph.

What is Season V of The Joseph Company all about?

Season V launches a bold new chapter: Becoming St. Joseph—The City of Coaches. We’re shifting from a single 9-month series to two 9-week cohorts per year, equipping leaders to create culture-shaping impact in every sector of our city.

Why the new format?

For the past four years, leaders have joined us monthly from September to May for a 9-part leadership breakfast series. Now, we’re going deeper, faster, and broader—training teams more intentionally and multiplying our reach across seven sectors.

What are the seven sectors you’re focusing on?

We’re working to launch leadership pilots in each of these areas:

  • Arts
  • Athletics
  • Business
  • Education
  • Government
  • Healthcare
  • Nonprofit

What’s the long-term goal?

Over the next 3 years, we aim to launch:
3 pilot teams per sector, per year
✅ That’s 21 pilots per year
✅ For a total of 63 pilots citywide

This is how we’ll build St. Joseph into a thriving City of Coaches.

What exactly is a “Pilot”?

A Pilot is a committed leadership team from an organization that goes through the 9-week 3D Journey together. Each pilot includes:

  1. Head Coach Buy-In – A top leader who supports and greenlights participation
  2. An Internal Champion – Someone from within the team who leads the effort
  3. Skin in the Game – Investment from the organization

What’s the process to become a Pilot?

  1. Attend the Head Coaches’ Summit (July 15, 2025)
This is for organizational leaders (“Head Coaches”) to hear the vision, ask questions, and consider sending a team.
  2. Nominate an Internal Champion
The person your organization selects to lead a team through the cohort and serve as point person for the Pilot.
  3. Champion attends a 3D Training Camp
Choose from August 12 or September 16 (identical events).
These events preview the 3D content, share the city-wide strategy, answer questions and explain expectations.

What happens after the Training Camp?

Champions return to their Head Coaches to decide whether to commit to launching a pilot team in an upcoming cohort. If yes, they’ll:

  • Decide how many teams (tables of up to 8 people) to train
  • Select the cohort you want to join and start your team on the 9-week 3D Journey

When is the Fall 2025 3D Cohort?

🗓 October 14 – December 9, 2025

  • Kickoff Event: October 14 @ Word of Life Church
  • Finale Event: December 9 @ Word of Life Church
  • Weekly Training Sessions: Tuesdays, 9–11 AM @ Restoration Church
  • Week 7: No session (Thanksgiving week) — Instead, a citywide service project

How many teams can join each cohort?

Each cohort is capped at 14 teams (1 team = 1 table of up to 8 people, led by organization’s internal champion).

What are the four key community events this year?

These large, inspiring events bookend each cohort and are open to the broader Joseph Company community—not just cohort participants:

  • Fall Kickoff – October 14, 2025
  • Fall Finale – December 9, 2025
  • Spring Kickoff – February 17, 2026
  • Spring Finale – April 14, 2026

Each event will feature unique content and speakers so returning attendees will always experience something new.

Will food be provided?

  • Kickoff & Finale Events: Yes
  • Weekly Cohort Sessions: No food provided, but optional group lunch outings afterward will be organized (everyone pays their own way)

What if I’m not a “Head Coach,” but I want my organization to participate?

That’s great! Just forward this info to your Head Coach (your top team leader or organizational decision-maker). The July 15 Summit is for them.

What’s covered in the 3D Journey?

Participants are trained in the 3D Coaching framework, which develops leaders across three dimensions:

  1. Skills (1st Dimension)
  2. Mind (2nd Dimension)
  3. Heart (3rd Dimension)

It’s a transformational leadership model designed to shape stronger teams and healthier organizational cultures. Check out the video below to hear more.
