Striving Together to Become St. Joseph

We’re honored to welcome Anson Dorrance to The City of Coaches for Striving Together to Become St. Joseph.
Coach Dorrance is widely regarded as one of the most influential leaders in the history of sport. During his tenure as head coach of UNC Women’s Soccer, he built a dynasty defined not just by winning, but by culture. His teams captured 22 national championships, produced generations of elite competitors, and helped launch the careers of iconic players such as Mia Hamm.
Beyond the trophies, Dorrance is best known for his approach to healthy competition, high standards, and daily accountability. He has long emphasized that culture is created through habits, expectations, and shared purpose, not speeches. His philosophy centers on using competition as a developmental tool, one that challenges individuals while strengthening the collective.
Throughout his career, Coach Dorrance has been a pioneer in creating environments where people are pushed to pursue excellence while still being supported as whole human beings. His influence extends well beyond the field, shaping how leaders think about performance, confidence, resilience, and long-term development.
In Striving Together to Become St. Joseph, Coach Dorrance will challenge us to rethink competition, not as striving against one another, but as striving together toward a shared vision. His perspective aligns powerfully with the heart of 3D Coaching and the call to build a city where standards rise and people rise together.
