St. Joseph Police Department

A Coaching Culture Inside Law Enforcement

At the St. Joseph Police Department, we are building more than officers.

We are building leaders.

We believe a coach is someone who helps people get from where they are to where they want or need to go.

That includes:

  • Our community
  • Our teammates
  • And you

We are committed to being a department where growth is intentional, development is expected, and leadership is cultivated at every level.

You do not have to arrive fully polished.

You do need:

  • A growth mindset
  • A willingness to pursue excellence
  • Alignment with our Standards of Excellence
  • The humility to learn
  • The courage to lead

These are standards we aspire to.

None of us have arrived.

But we pursue them together — with grace, with accountability, and with leadership that is committed to helping you become your best self.

Our 3D Standards of Excellence

1. Character Before Authority
We are officers whose character governs our authority.

2. Develop People Intentionally
We are developers of people, not just enforcers of law or policy.

3. Relational Trust as Operational Currency
We protect unity inside the department and trust in the community.

4. Serve Citizens with Courage and Compassion
We are guardians who protect with strength and compassion.

5. Lead at Every Level
We are all leaders regardless of rank.

6. Execute with Discipline and Precision
We are disciplined professionals committed to excellence.

7. Family Mindset Inside the Department
We are a department that treats one another like family.

These are not our slogans. These are our commitments which shape how we lead, how we protect, how we serve, and how we grow together.
