LifeCycle of the Dream

From aspirational ideal to lived reality

The Seven Cultural Distinctives are aspirational. They describe the culture St. Joseph dreams of creating—not a culture we have fully achieved. That is okay. Like an acorn growing into a grand oak, dreams mature over time. The LifeCycle of the Dream follows that growth through Survival, Stability, Success, and Significance, giving us a shared way to measure the distance between our dream and the culture people experience today.

Survival — RarelyThe desired cultural behaviors are largely absent.
Stability — OccasionallyThe behaviors are present, but experienced inconsistently.
Success — OftenThe behaviors are commonly experienced across the community.
Significance — ConsistentlyThe behaviors are deeply embedded, widely experienced, and reproduced through others.

From Stability toward Significance

Knowing the Times

Knowing the times means recognizing what this moment demands. Physical infrastructure matters, but it cannot carry a community into the future on its own. Progress requires a hopeful vision, people motivated to pursue it, and a plan that turns hope into action. We must build the human capacity and social infrastructure that will unite us in purpose, give us the confidence to invest, motivate us to persist, and keep us focused on the generations to come.
