Breakfast 40 & Community Culture Report
The Story Behind the Report
Breakfast 40 was the 40th and final gathering in The Joseph Company’s five-year community breakfast series. It brought together five years of listening, learning, and working alongside leaders from across St. Joseph.
In this presentation, you’ll see how the journey unfolded, hear what more than 500 local leaders helped us discover about the community we aspire to become, explore the results of the 2026 Community Culture Survey, and see where we believe the journey can go from here.

COMMUNITY CULTURE SURVEY
What Are We Measuring Against?
The standards used in this survey weren’t created in a boardroom.
They emerged from the voices of St. Joseph.
Over the past five years, more than 500 leaders across St. Joseph have shared their leadership ideas, purpose statements, legacy statements, values, and vision for the future.
Those thousands of words and ideas were distilled into a shared leadership language and Seven Cultural Distinctives that describe the culture St. Joseph aspires to build together.
Our Common Language
The collective voices of 500+ people were synthesized to articulate our shared cultural ideals—and establish a standard to measuring against.
SEVEN CULTURAL DISTINCTIVES
The Culture St. Joseph Aspires to Build
Distinctive 1
Serve With Compassion
We are people who move toward needs and use our influence to help, protect, and uplift others.
Distinctive 2
Pursue Excellence Together
We are a community of teammates who work for the common good, persevere through challenges, and pursue excellence together.
Distinctive 3
Engage & Build People
We are encouragers who see potential in people, speak life, and intentionally help others grow stronger in skill, mind, and heart.
Distinctive 4
Lead With
Integrity
We are leaders who do the right thing, tell the truth, follow through, and create trust by being the same person in public and in private.
Distinctive 5
Treat People Like Family
We are a people-first community that values relationships, supports one another, and creates belonging.
Distinctive 6
Grow on
Purpose
We are learners who pursue excellence, embrace growth, and stay humble enough to keep improving.
Distinctive 7
Love & Respect People
We are people who honor others with respect, bring joy to the culture, and lead with love.
This is the dream.
The Community Culture Survey helps us understand the gap between this shared dream and our present reality.
THE GOOD NEWS
The Future Hasn't Been Created Yet.
This survey is not a prediction of where St. Joseph is headed. It is simply an honest snapshot of where we are today.
Culture is not static. It is shaped every day by the choices we make, the words we speak, the relationships we build, and the values we choose to live out.
We now have a clearer picture of the culture we want to build and the culture people are experiencing today.
The question is what we choose to do with that knowledge.

Why Coaches Call Timeouts
Great coaches know that stopping in the right moment can change the outcome. Timeouts create space to gain perspective, realign, and move forward with clarity.
During Season III of The Joseph Company, Dr. Jeff Duke, founding partner of the 3D Institute and architect of the 3D Framework, talked about the value of calling a timeout in a crucial moment.
STEP 02 - EQUIP THE LEADERS
Join the Great Exploration
Each season, The Joseph Company has a theme. For Season VI, we’re calling it The Great Exploration.
Leadership teams from across our community are invited to join us for a city-wide 3D Master Class—a nine-week journey to clarify identity, establish purpose, and learn how to intentionally shape culture.
As more leaders EXPLORE the 3D training, they will add their voices to the ongoing work of defining the culture St. Joseph aspires to build together.
The future of St. Joseph will be shaped by people who are equipped to lead with purpose and intentionally build healthy cultures.
STEP 03 - MULTIPLY THE IMPACT
Establish the 3D Culture Summit
Every great movement needs a launching point.
The 3D Culture Summit will bring leadership teams from across the country to St. Joseph to be resourced, equipped, and launched to architect culture within their organizations and across their communities.
Bring Your Team. Bring Your Dream. Leave With a Plan.
